How it works and what changes for consumers
The new framework for residential solar panels in Cyprus applies a hybrid net metering model. First, consumption and production are offset in kWh (kilowatt-hours) every two months (as in Net Metering) and, if surplus energy is generated, it is assigned a monetary value.
In each bi-monthly bill, the solar panel output is offset against the household's consumption. The offset is calculated in kWh (kilowatt-hours).
After the offset, if the solar panel has produced more energy than was consumed, the surplus production is not lost.
The credit amount is deducted from the next bi-monthly bill as a discount, in addition to the basic offset of production and consumption.
